Call for participation in survey on goods delivery processes

The change in the freight structure towards increasingly small-scale deliveries and the high demand on the flexibility of a logistics system have led to a nonstop increase in road freight transport. As a result, the urban environment is especially exposed to increasing pressures such as rising emissions or land conflicts. The consequence is usually a ban on entering city centers or area-specific restrictions on delivery and pick-up times, which is at the expense of the flexibility of goods delivery on the part of service providers, but also retailers, trade, and industry.

To maintain the flexibility of logistics while reducing emissions and traffic congestion in the urban environment, other solutions must be created. One such solution could be the shift from motorized delivery vehicles to special streetcars (so-called “freight trams”) with the subsequent small-scale distribution of goods via cargo bike. This possibility is currently being studied in the LogIKTram research project using the example of the Karlsruhe region, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

To examine the potentials and traffic effects of such a concept, we, the KIT Institute of Transportation, are trying to better understand the current situation in the delivery of goods to and from companies in the region. For this purpose, we would like to ask you to participate in a survey. Your cooperation will help us consider your needs in the future design of freight transport in Karlsruhe. We will be happy to send you an overview of the results after the survey has been completed via the newsletter. Of course, participation is voluntary. Nevertheless, your support is necessary for a successful outcome. Answering the questions will take about 10 to 15 minutes. You can access the survey via the following internet address or by scanning the QR code.
